Vectors: Any quantity can be described in 2 ways: a Scalar or Vector. ‘Scalar’ is a quantity which only has magnitude (number only). ‘Vector’ is a quantity which has both magnitude and direction (which way it’s heading towards).
Vector representation in 1-D:
It’s magnitude is denoted by | A | and its direction is given by a unit vector of length = 1, but heading towards a certain direction!
A unit vector is denoted by , and its magnitude is given by, | | = 1.
Vector representation in 2-D:
From the above graph, we see that the vector forms a right triangle, so use Pythagorean Theorem to find | V |.
